We recognize the diversity within our API community: different Asian-American ancestry, religious faith, socio-economic class, educational level, and political ideology. We aim to provide inclusiveness and community building and access to a culturally-specific resource.

Our Mission and Vision

PFLAG San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander accomplishes the vision and mission of PFLAG National in promoting the health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals, their families, and friends through:

Support

Education

Advocacy

Unique to our organization is that we address the culture-specific needs of the Asian-American, Pacific-Islander, East Asian, and South Asian people.  We foster inter-generational dialogue; and when needed, provide language assistance.

We strive to meet the needs of our API families with LGBTQ+ children and/or our API LGBTQ+ with the following programs:

  1. Monthly support group

  2. Shared-culture smaller group gathering (known as the Afternoon Tea with Asian Parents or ATAP)

  3. Family Circle gathering that comprises of solely the immediate family and/or extended family

  4. Resources (online printed copies, parent/LGBTQ+/ally contact network)

  5. Ongoing advocacy work through event participation and continuing collaboration with local, state-wide, and national API LGBTQ+ organizations

Our vision is to promote inter-generational and inter-ethnic dialogue among our Asian, Asian-American, Pacific-Islander, Southeast Asian, and South Asian parents, families, and their lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender children, family members, and friends.  That with ongoing conversations in safe spaces, our voices will be ever stronger; be heard loud and clear; and that love prevails.
